One of us went to visit this intriguing place in April 1999. I was expecting something boring and tedious to be absolutely frank, but I was in for a hell of a surprise. Munich and the surrounding area is very mountainous and forested. We went up a huge mountain which was covered in snow, and drank a little Jaegermaster - this certainly was a highlight of the weekend. Munich as a city was full of entertainers at night, and a few clubs. Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to check out the clubs, or the herbs, though I saw plenty of smoking going on outside of the pubs. If you're into pornography, then you have quite a choice here as well!
We visited the Olympic Stadium, and went up the Olympic Tower which hosted a nice restaurant and bar. This bar is a good couple of hundred of metres above the ground, and actually rotates around the tower itself - you have to see it for yourself to understand. The result however is feeling quite disorientated unfortunately.
If you really want to experience nightlife at its best, then visit the underground beer hall. The minimum amount of beer is half a litre, and standard size of glasses were litre glasses. This isn't some pussy beer like Fosters either - this is full strength and full taste beer which gets you lashed up. The Germans certainly know how to get pissed up, and there were absolutely no fights in sight. The police don't arrest people for being pissed up (like in England), they simply laugh!
When you've built up an appetite for food from skiing or just walking you can rest assured that the food here is reasonably cheap and of good quality. If you're a vegetarian then you might not appreciate the huge size of the steaks and the immensely large portions. One good place to get food is from the RatCeller (or something like that). This is a huge underground restaurant which gives you food very quickly, and even provides the obligatory Tabasco Sauce if you're into hot chilli sauce!
You can get to Munich for a mere 40 quid return from most flight operators, so its really quite easy to get to this city. The transport system is really, really good (and this includes trams, busses and underground). The beers kick arse and you can get herbs if you can be bothered to speak German. Visit if you're up for a quick mission.
