Why Anti-Capitalism?
Increasing poverty, low wages, job insecurity, homelessness, global
warming, genetic engineering, deforestation, the erosion of freedom and
justice, corporate control, wars, prisons. The degredation of our society,
our liberties and our environment.
Contrary to popular belief this is not the planets natural evolutionary
process at work. This is Capitalism : the economic and political system
that controls the world. Its sole purpose is to take resources, wealth
and power away from the many and give it to the few. This is a global system.
It is based on greed. Its centres of worship are the shopping malls
and its clergy hold power in their share options.
Unless we demand a change, capitalism will kill us : our environment,
our work rights, our liberties, our world.
Is there another way?
Should we accept the fact that businesses hold all the power in their hands? Anti-Capitalism is against the system which puts profit above all else. What we need is a system which recognises the needs of the people, the harms done to the environment, and the need to aim towards a fair and free society. Together we can create a world based on respect, cooperation and equality. No one is claiming to have all the answers but if we work together, we can come to a solution which will be fairer and more just.
The growing resistance to Capitalism…
Alternatives are not voiced in press or in centres of government. Anti-Capitalists
are treated like madmen : “What? You think that we should give a damn about
the people of the third world? That we should strive for a more just and
equal society? You must be an extremist!”. What could be further from the
truth?
Despite this, coordinated global mass demonstrations targeting capitalist
strongholds (June 18th in the City of London , November 30th in Seattle)
are occurring more and more frequently. Future days of action include the
actions against the IMF and World Bank in New York (April 16/17th), and
the Mayday worldwide carnival against capitalism.
On Mayday, Anti-Capitalists from all over the world are uniting to extend the path toward a better society. In the UK this will take the shape of a four day gathering in London. April the 30th sees an action in London against the Prevention of Terrorism Bill which will outlaw any form of direct action which attacks the forces of capitalism. Following on, the very next day is an unmissable mass demonstration on May 1st. Be there!
