Anti-Cannabis Plonkers (August 99)

Disclaimer : Hanging around with these cats could seriously affect your chances of being a regular member of society. No liability accepted!

ZeroZero presents to you a list adapted from one sent out on the CLCIA mailing list. All we can suggest to these overly concerned and thoroughly sad people (some of them belong to an organisation called "SAD") is that they should either smoke a spliff or shut the fuck up. They clearly know nothing about cannabis, the original reasons cited for prohibiting it (Q. "what happened when you smoked cannabis?" A."it turned me into a bat" - Anslinger), or the terrible effects of criminaling non-violent users of recreational drugs safer than alcohol or tobacco.

<Original form received through CLCIA mailing list>

Jack Straw MP (Home Secretary) Equates cannabis with phalidamide, even though he smoked it regularly himself as a student. (His son dealt cannabis to an undercover reporter, and his brother was reputedly the 'main man' in much of London - sounds like a sinister conspiracy doesn't it!?) Click here for some extra info. Aside from his racism ramblings about 'bogus asylum seekers' and his 'tough on crime' criminalisation of peacful activists, his promotion of prohibition make him a prime candidate for bigot of the year.

Ann Winterton MP (Conservative, Congleton) 0171 219 3000 - ask for her office.  She has talked on the subject before and apparently knows very little indeed. She told the House of Commons  that cannabis is now "200 times more potent than cannabis was in the 60's "  adding that the source of her information was  "not from the Dutch embassy" but she got it off the internet (not off this internet site!).  Once accussed Anita Rodderick of promoting drugs through selling hemp products.

Charles Clarke MP for Norwich South 0171 219 3000 - ask for his office. Has admitted that he smoked cannabis as a youth but is against legalisation even for medical compassionate grounds.

Will Palin (Youth Trust) 01271 321100. The Youth Trust, Market St, Barnstable, N. Devon, Ex31 BX. "Over the top" according to gossip.

Mary Penfold, Chairman West Dorset District Council. She wrote to the Western Gazette totally dismayed at her fellow councillor's support for legalisation.

Dr Vasco Fernandes. A public health doctor in Oxford, said cannabis was a "gateway drug", when reporting to the BMA, even though Keith Hellawell dismisses gateway theory. Anyone who gives the gateway theory as a reason for prohibition is a blatant idiot.

Peter Stocker (National Drug Prevention Alliance). Tel/fax: 01753 677917. PO Box 594, Slough, SL1 1AA. Totally over the top (but probably well intended). When confronted with Dutch government figures supporting their cannabis policies on a radio phone -in, his answer was "There's a lot of strange things going on at the cross roads".

Teresa Gorman MP (Conservative) 0171 219 3000 - ask for her office. Classic tory.

Dudley Sutton (actor) - brought Narcotics Anonymous to Britain. Intelligent & articulate apparently. NA are essentially bible bashers who believe that you can't quit drugs, including cannabis, without god on your elbow. God does work for some but by no means all. Their method is known as the '12 Step' in the US. They seem to have forgotten that Jesus went off for twenty odd years with the Chaldeans/Magi. The Chaldeans were astrologers  who religiously smoked cannabis...

Mathew Project (Norwich) - some kind of anti drugs project.

EURAD (Europe Against Drugs) - "Marijuana is 10 times stronger than cigarrettes". Based in Dublin.

Alister Ramsey - (S.A.D. Scottish Against Drugs). Very sad organisation : recent Radio 5 Interview of a SAD member claimed that cannabis would 'eventually destroy every chromosome in a smokers body' and that "some cannabis smokers only have 10 chromosomes left"! (All this nonsense proves is that SAD are very sad and don't have the faintest clue about biology or cannabis. Pretty damn sad.

Ruth Valero - (Evangelical Coalition Against Drugs)  -  0171 582 0228 part of Evangelical Alliance. Want to make out they are trendy christians - an obvious paradox.

David Partington - used to be head of Yodull Centre - (0118 934 5072). May want cash.

Dr Adrian Rogers - (Family Focus - used to be 'Conservative Christian Families') Anti everything. Was election candidate in Taunton, fought extremely nasty anti gay slur campaign against gay labour candidate and lost.

James Hellyer - appearing in the 'Living with the Enemy' program as the opposite of Exodus. Apparently now "slightly confused" about where he stands although he grassed them up to the cops on camera.

Gary Bushel - Sun writer - runs a virtual 'Anti-Cannabis Campaign' via his regular place in the gutter. Used to be connected to rightwing skin head bands who he supported when writing for Sounds magazine. Has admitted taking speed on TV.
